Gyrotrons

Toshiba Electron Tubes & Devices has engaged in the development of gyrotrons as an RF source for fusion plasma heating and measurement for many years.
Japan Atomic Energy Agency and Toshiba Electron Tubes & Devices have developed three key technologies for high-power quasi-CW gyrotrons: a depressed collector, a higher-order mode cavity, and a CVD diamond window. We have achieved short pulses (one millisecond) at 1.3 MW, and power levels of one megawatt for around ten seconds.
Moreover, Toshiba Electron Tubes & Devices was the first company to succeed in improving efficiency from 30% to 50% by collecting energy from the electron beam (collector fall-of-potential)
